HEF Striving to Meet the Needs of Students
Nutrition Program

Following the storms of the 2008 hurricane season, many in Haiti continue to suffer. Families are still dealing with the loss of livestock and gardens, along with the difficult economic situation in Haiti, which has put an added strain on the adults and children. Because times are difficult and it is very hard to concentrate on learning when hungry, we are striving to improve our Nutrition Program. The Episcopal priests in charge of our HEF schools have established that for .25 cents per day, a Haitian child can be fed a nutritious meal…that is only $5.00 per month or $60.00 per year. We have often seen the children eat what they want and then pass the rest to a parent waiting outside with a younger child. The affects of this Nutrition Program are far reaching!

$60 will feed one child for one year!

During the devastating assaults of the hurricane season, a plea was made for funds to help the people in Haiti. You responded generously with gifts totaling more than $25,000.00. Our priests have used these funds in assisting families whose crops were ruined and whose homes were destroyed. Your outpouring of love has made a great difference in the lives of those who have lost much.

The year ahead holds many challenges for the Haiti Education Foundation. Mike Landers, Chris McRae and I have just returned from a visit with Pere Vil and Pere Desire, as well as the members of the OCDES board in Haiti. Most of our schools sustained damage and because of food shortages, our children are hungry. Despite these obstacles, our schools are in session and the HOPE of education continues to bring LIGHT.

Together, we are making a difference!

We are committed to providing our children with their needs both spiritually and physically – and rebuilding the damaged schools. Currently, we are gathering information and devising our plan of action to meet these needs as quickly as possible. It will require the efforts of us all! In the mean time, we are accepting funds for rebuilding the schools and for the feeding program. We would like to ask you to partner with us in prayer for the welfare of our friends in Haiti and for wisdom and guidance as we seek God’s will for our endeavors.

The challenges are great! The economic situation here in the United States is uncertain and we are all wondering what the outcome will be. In the midst of our own difficulties, please remember those in Haiti who struggle daily. Consider a ministry in which 100% of donations are sent directly to the area of need. Allow God’s blessings to be poured out on you as you give to those who have little.
